Environmental Health Services
Our Environmental Health division is dedicated to protecting, restoring, and enhancing environmental quality to ensure public health, environmental integrity, and economic viability. The Health Services & Solid Waste Division (HSW) aims to provide comprehensive environmental health services to households, business communities, and visitors of Okahao.
Food Safety
- We investigate foodborne illness allegations, inspect or audit food businesses, enforce food laws, and inspect businesses throughout the food production and distribution process.
Animal Control Services
- We manage the control and licensing of animals in Okahao as per the Animal Impounding Regulations and Animals Disease and parasite Act (Act No.13 of 1956)
- Dog License: A maximum of two dogs per residential premises is allowed. Dog licenses must be renewed annually from January and settled by March 31. Please report all stray animals for impoundment.
Health Inspectorate
- Our Environmental Health Practitioners offer advice on public health matters and ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
Building Plan Inspections
- We verify building plans to ensure compliance with Health and Building regulations, focusing on lighting and ventilation.
Slaughterhouse Inspections
- Our practitioners supervise livestock slaughtering and inspect dressed carcasses to ensure safety and hygiene.
Waste Management
- We provide efficient waste collection, disposal services and advocate recycling, to maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
Water Quality Monitoring
- Regular testing and monitoring of water sources to ensure safe and clean water for all residents.
Pest Control
- Implementing measures to control and prevent pest infestations, ensuring a healthy living environment.
Community Education
- Conducting workshops and awareness programs to educate the community on environmental health practices and regulations.
Occupation Health and Safety
- To ensure public safety in terms of occupational health.
