Open Markets

Okahao Town Council Open Markets

The Okahao Town Council has established two open markets:

  • Cornelia N. Iiyambula Open Market (New Open Market)
  • Lahja Shivute Open Market (Old Open Market)

These markets provide vendors with access to user-friendly kiosks and open trading spaces tailored to their needs. Available facilities include salons, barbershops, food stalls, clothing outlets, arts and crafts products, as well as fruits and vegetables.

Application Process:

  • Download the application form for a trading space [here] or pick it up at the office of the Open Market Promoter at Cornelia Iiyambula Open Market or the Town Council Reception Counter.

Fees:

  • Trading space fees range from N$30.00 to N$200.00.

Informal Trading Support:

  • The Council offers additional support for informal traders, including open spaces available for rent for events such as fundraisers and bazaars.
    • Fees: N$300.00 for profit-making entities and N$150.00 for Non-Profit Organizations.

Oshikwataakwata Initiative:

  • The Open Markets are complemented by the “Oshikwataakwata” initiative, a business opportunity designed to support local traders from various northern Namibian towns. This event is held on a rotational basis, with Okahao hosting it on Tuesdays. The trading fee is N$10.00 per trader.
